Jacqueline Shoemaker
Director
Mrs. Jacqueline is the Co-founder and Director of Solid Roots Academy. Her background as a special education teacher, school psychologist, and homeschool mom to four boys inspired her dream of creating a different kind of school. She loves the Acton model for its focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, and independent thinking. Most importantly, she loves that Solid Roots is a place where learners can grow in their faith, character, and God-given purpose.
Jacob Shoemaker
Adventure Guide
Mr. Jake is our Co-founder and Adventure Guide at Solid Roots Academy. As a dad to four boys and an entrepreneur, Jake brings a love of adventure, creativity, and real-world learning to the studio. He enjoys just about anything outdoors—especially traveling, hiking, and exploring new places. Most of all, Jake loves spending time with his family and encouraging young people to embrace challenges, discover their strengths, and enjoy the adventure along the way.

Spark Guide
I have a strong passion for supporting children and their families in many different roles, and I am so excited my journey has brought me to Solid Roots. I look forward to utilizing my experience in early childhood development to help encourage the growth of young learners in the Spark studio on their very own Hero’s Journey. Outside of the studio I love baking, trying new coffee shops, reading, and spending time with my family.

Discovery Guide
Hi!! My name is Jana and I am so excited to be the Discovery Guide and to lead our learners into a year of curiosity, growth, and companionship. I love hiking, being in the sun, watching plants grow, reading, journaling, and asking questions to anyone and everyone! I am on an adventure learning about the life that God calls me to live and I love learning about who He is and about His creation.

Four years ago, the Shoemakers moved from Colorado to Arizona in search of freedom, purpose, and a better way to educate children. After years in the traditional education system, it became clear it was not serving children well—curiosity was fading, and potential was being constrained.
Jake, an entrepreneur and problem-solver, brings over ten years of experience building meaningful work through his handyman business. Jacqueline spent nearly two decades as a special education teacher and school psychologist before stepping away to homeschool their four boys.
After exploring public, charter, and homeschool options, the Shoemakers discovered the Acton model—a learner-driven approach that trusts children, honors their God-given calling, and invites them into a hero’s journey.
Launching an Acton Affiliate is their next quest: partnering with families to raise confident learners and leaders, equipped to change the world for the glory of the Lord.
The Shoemakers don’t promise an easy path.
They promise a meaningful one.
And the adventure is just beginning.
