Four years ago, the Shoemakers moved from Colorado to Arizona in search of freedom, purpose, and a better way to educate children. After years in the traditional education system, it became clear it was not serving children well—curiosity was fading, and potential was being constrained.

Jake, an entrepreneur and problem-solver, brings over ten years of experience building meaningful work through his handyman business. Jacqueline spent nearly two decades as a special education teacher and school psychologist before stepping away to homeschool their four boys.

After exploring public, charter, and homeschool options, the Shoemakers discovered the Acton model—a learner-driven approach that trusts children, honors their God-given calling, and invites them into a hero’s journey.

Launching an Acton Affiliate is their next quest: partnering with families to raise confident learners and leaders, equipped to change the world for the glory of the Lord.
